Italian Herb Bread

A mug of hot choclate

This recipe is one that I have been evolving over the past decade. It started out with just a dump of the Italian Seasons that you get at the shelf rack at the store. This current incarnation is really good and worth posting.

Garlic kills yeast so don't throw it in when the dough is mixing.

Directions

  1. 3/4 C water
  2. 1/4 C milk
  3. 3 TBL soft butter
  4. 3 TBL sugar
  5. 2 TBL honey
  6. 1/2 tsp salt
  7. 3 1/4 Bread flour
  8. 2 TBL Italian seasoning
  9. 1 1/2 tsp yeast
  10. Coarse salt
  11. Garlic powder
  12. Black peppercorn
  13. Butter flavored no stick cooking spray

Place the sugar, salt, butter, honey and milk in the bread machine pan. I swirl it around a bit.

Add the warm/hot water in the bread machine pan and swirl around for a few seconds.

Put the flour in the pan, I make a little dimple in the flour.

Put the yeast in the dimple.

Set the bread machine for dough.

When the bread machine is done spray a glass bread pan with cooking spray. Place the dough in the in the glass pan.

Take a knife and make a slice down the center of the dough (cutting lengthwise).

Spray the top of the loaf with the butter flavored cooking spray.

Shake on garlic powder, freshly ground black pepper, and Italian seasonings.

I bake two loafs at a time. Place the dough in the fridge for about an hour and a half.

Preheat oven to 425F and bake for 25 minutes.
