This is stuff that doesn't fit any place else
but wanted to share.
RPG Rants 01
This might be a long one ladies & gentlemen. I'm an old fucking man, don't hold it against me. One of the things I do dislike about a lot of games is that even when you try to die you can't. I like better balance in that my character can. That is what makes the rick of playing in a combat or other dangerous circumstance rewarding. Not risk of loss leads to an empty victory... On the other handle I don't want to roll to avoid choking or tripping on an untied shoe lace.
Goodman games, Brendan, the artist who did the cover work... please don't sue me for using the cover of the Xcrawl book. Xcrawl is another example of how the DCC mechanic isn't just confined to the high fantasy realm... like that leading competitor run my MBAs who want you to sign up for AI GMs and digital books that the company owns, not you. No disrespect for any artist/writer who have worked with them. I am not downing your working, I'm downing the company.
So was on FB and saw a post about Xcrawl. Got me talking and thinking about how the mechanics effect the game play of a setting. 2d20 by Modiphius has a really good feel for Star Trek, I've played in TNG Era and the TOS, the mechanic and style of play that kind of a Trek show/adventure requires it has a nice feel. Aliens or The Expanse would fit in really with a GURPS mechanic. So many fan based items and other stuff for it out there... And you can play it as stripped down (simple 3d6) as you like or add widgets like bleeding out and recovery time to the game play. A Star Wars or Hitchhikers Guide would fit a Savage Worlds swingy system. I like it for some superhero, hidden occult secret, and other kinds of play where it's more cinematic or action movie like.
I've seen some stand alone adventures for DCC's mechanic and loved them. "Beyond the Silver Scream" is a good example of a 0 level funnel for 70s or 80s teenagers watching a horror movie. I've got a 3rd party published take on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that is pretty cool.
I love a mechanic that can handle a lot of genres and that can be used with certain styles.
