Yeah you're going to have to get a clean small pot for this. This is a pretty basic recipe and hard to screw up. See I needed to say that to that one person out there to get them to try this at home. That person who has never tried before but now has a hankering to because of the two recipes. Come on, get up off your ass and make it.

Put the equivalent amount of milk to fill a mug in the pot. Aka put the milk in the mug and use the mug as your measuring cup. Watch out that and the pot are doing to be a bitch to pour.

Bring up to a simmer but be careful not to let it boil or scorch. Don't blast the burner full blast, keep it on a medium to high instead of high high setting.

Stir in the dry goods and keep mixing till the sugar dissolves and the milk is nice and hot.

You can try a few other kinds of "sugars" if you want. Anything from molasses, to real maple syrup, karo syrup, brown sugar, this is on you to make your own experiments. As I'm writing this it's winter turning to spring but I drink a good hot chocolate any time of the year.

When the milk is steaming & the sugar is all melted add in the splash of vanilla. the salt and mix. Let it sit for a few minutes to chill out.

This can be easily be turned into an ice cream or iced custard recipe for enjoyment over the summer.
